Enjoy Graz
With a well-established reputation for being a lively place of culture, Graz became the first city in Austria to gain the accolade of being the European Capital of Culture in 2003. The unique flair of the metropolis on the Mur was instrumental in assuring the success of the Cultural Capital project – which is why Graz continues to refer to itself today as the ‘cultural capital’.
So how do you go about exploring this impressive Cultural Heritage site? The answer is simply: at your leisure. Graz is manageable and most of its many sights are located within easy reach of elegant coffee houses, fine restaurants, colourful farmer’s markets or trendy bars. Graz can be discovered and rediscovered time and time again and the overall atmosphere is grandiose, and very much so in the arcaded courtyard of the Landhaushof, a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance.
So don’t worry about missing out on the attractions: Schlossberg, Museum of Contemporary Art (Kunsthaus), Island in the Mur, Theatre, Opera, Cathedral and all the rest, the tourist compulsory program in Graz is a pure pleasure.
